Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen Version Return to Nintendo Switch

Header: Nintendo

For the first time in 20 years, Pokémon™ FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version made a return to the Nintendo Switch™ and Nintendo Switch 2 systems. The grand return was scheduled for Pokémon Day, February 27, 2026, just in time for the game’s birthday. And what better way to celebrate 30 years of Pokémon’s creation than by reliving that nostalgic feel of the vintage Game Boy™ Advance system now available on Nintendo Switch?

Original characters in the Generation I setting

Every one of these releases is available in three languages: English, French, and Spanish. New and old returning players can reunite with their old Pokémon characters in the original environment. They can also explore the Kanto region introduced in Generation I. Based on the real Kanto region in Honshu (the largest Island in Japan), the environment is portrayed as modern and technological. Long-term fans will enjoy taking a trip down memory lane, while new users can gain insight into the game’s beginnings, early character appearances, and original settings.

Nintendo Switch versions of the 2004 original game remake

Originally released in Japan in 1996, the Pokémon games received their first remakes in 2004. Now, those beloved titles arrive on the Nintendo Switch, bringing back the original 151 Pokémon for a new generation of players. Iconic characters, including Brock, Misty, Professor Oak, and Giovanni, return, ready to challenge and guide users once again. The release is accompanied by the classic soundtrack true fans remember and by the signature turn-based gameplay that defined the series.

Easily connect with friends

These classic Game Boy Advance RPGs include all the updates introduced during the Game Boy Advance era, such as natures, abilities, weather conditions, held items, and the option to choose the player character’s gender. As with the 2004 editions, Pokémon™ FireRed Version and Pokémon™ LeafGreen Version can be enjoyed with a friend. This time, however, there’s no need for a Game Link Cable as players can easily connect via local co-op.
