Personalized Luxury of the Istanbul Duplex That’s Half Home, Half Museum

The MC House Caddebostan, completed in 2023 by escapefromsofa, is a 170-square-meter duplex located in Istanbul that was designed both as a residence and an art showcase. Functionality and aesthetics go hand in hand in this project, but the focus was on personalized aesthetics throughout the creative process.

The house’s layout is centered around a 40-meter-long open-plan area on the main floor, integrating the living, dining, and kitchen zones. A service suite was also added to the design, having been hidden away from view but still equipped with the same warm feel found in the rest of the house.

The materials chosen for the project were, of course, carefully considered. Eucalyptus and oak wall paneling were paired with beige and brown tones to foster a warm and muted atmosphere. Stone accents, such as Iranian travertine and dark-stained wood flooring, contrast the aforementioned palette, giving the space a much-appreciated rich vibe.

Furnishing was crucial to developing the “personalized luxury” feel the designers sought. The pieces that immediately catch your eye within the house are the glass-topped coffee table, the bespoke TV stand, Cassina’s Soriana couch and armchairs, the Lin Brasil and Ceccotti chairs, and the lighting fixtures by Poulsen. As the cherry on top of the cake, the designers added curated art pieces by Sevim Kaya and Çağatay Odabaşı into the environment, giving the house the “art collectors” vibe that the clients were looking for.

When upstairs, one arrives at the private quarters, designed as a kind of intimate sanctuary, complete with a bedroom, a private bathroom, and dressing areas. In the master bedroom, the designers chose to add an iconic grid-patterned headboard and matching bedside tables in black. In a quick and doorless walk downstairs, one immediately notices how the kitchen is positioned at the garden level, an easy way to connect the residents to the outdoors.
