SOLUPPGÅNG, the latest collection by IKEA, draws inspiration from two seemingly distant, but compatible traditions: Nordic friluftsliv philosophy of open-air living, and Japanese komorebi, a poetic beauty of sunlight filtering through the leaves. The collection designed for outdoor living presents a curated selection of items from textiles and stools to tableware and light.
“We want to inspire people to go outside in an easy way — even in small, everyday ways. Nature shouldn’t require special equipment or long travel. SOLUPPGÅNG is designed to enable simple enjoyment: a seat in the grass, a warm drink, a shared meal, or a breath of fresh air.”
Karin Gustavsson, Creative Leader for SOLUPPGÅNG

SOLUPPGÅNG: light and functional design
In a time when room for restorative pauses becomes more and more scarce, the SOLUPPGÅNG collection offers essentials for spending restorative time in nature. The curated selection of items includes a foldable stool and table, easy for transport and use, alongside tableware made of durable, enamelled steel. IKEA thought about food preparation as well as presenting a compact cast-iron barbecue. Both barbecue and tableware are made to be lightweight and long-lasting, making it easy to transition between outdoor and indoor.

Outdoor food preparation and storage
Bamboo chopping boards and serving bowls facilitate preparation and food consumption. Cool box provides insulation and crafted expression with its special combination of natural materials and smart functionality. Textiles, including throws, cushions, and blankets, offer soft, tactile cosiness inspired by nature. Versatile functional box with expandable top and durable base provides practical space for essentials, while the LED lantern emits warm, soft light wherever you go.

Durable, human-centred design by Ola Wihlborg
Designer Ola Wihlborg is no stranger to outdoor living. The person who designed many of the cooking and tableware pieces drew on his extensive outdoor hiking and mountain-biking experience to shape the functionality of each piece.
“When I designed the knife, spork, barbecue and tableware, I wanted them to work effortlessly outdoors but also feel natural at home. Durable materials like cast-iron and enamelled steel make the products long‑lasting, while natural details give them a warm, tactile feel.”
Ola Wihlborg

By using a minimalist yet warm design language, Wihlborg creates human-centred items. Durability is rooted in materials that are designed to preserve memories and experiences over time, allowing the piece to become increasingly personal with use. The knife, the designer’s favourite piece in the collection, was created with practicality in mind. The versatile tool has numerous applications in the outdoors, whether you need to cut rope or prepare food.

By drawing from the simplicity of friluftsliv and the poetic sensibility of komorebi, SOLUPPGÅNG balances minimal design with functionality and warmth. Designed for simple outdoor adventures, the collection encourages a multitude of outdoor experiences– from short walks in the wild, to picnics and making barbecue in the park. SOLUPPGÅNG ultimately invites everyone to slow down, reconnect with the outdoors, and create meaningful moments. The limited collection will be available at an accessible price point in all IKEA stores worldwide starting April 2026.
