Two years ago, when Polimair launched its first product, the Beluga chair, it proved that it’s possible to bring innovation and aesthetic design to plastic furniture. The company transforms 100% recycled plastic into comfortable, functional furniture, bringing ingenuity and depth to create demanding and distinctive pieces. The acclaim the Beluga chair received has set the ground for a new design language – recycled plastic furniture designed as a kit, thus restoring value to the material that has long been considered cheap and underrated.

The Baiji Stool
From the outset, the ambition was to develop a range of products that fully explore the potential of recycled plastic, approaching the material not as a constraint, but as a catalyst for design innovation. Now, after a year of development, the company has created a new product – the Baiji stool. More than just a follow-up, the Baiji stool features a completely new design. Every line is adapted to a new silhouette and every curve optimised to serve a new use.

Customizable modular design
Noticing that stools are only occasionally used and spend the majority of their time stored away, the company decided to turn the Baiji stool into “an object that remains”. When not in use for their primary function, sitting, the stools can be clipped together to create a series of objects, such as shelves, partitions, tables, and more. Instead of disappearing when not in use, the object simply changes form.

The design broadens the range of uses. Instead of limiting the object to one function, the stool can be easily redesigned into a side table, room divider, support, or storage element, or used to express the owner’s artistic side by creating totems, sculptures, or patterns. The ideas established by the Beluga chair are incorporated into Polimair’s new product as well:
- monomaterial
- locally made in France
- solid construction
- 100% recycled plastic
- flat-pack systems and fast assembly.
The product comes flat-packed with four parts: 1 seat and 3 legs that can be assembled within a minute with just 3 screws and an accompanying screw tool. Baiji stool also comes in numerous colours, allowing many opportunities for customisation. The launch of the Baiji stool will take place through a first limited series of just 500 numbered and signed stools that also come with customizable colours.

Baiji Stool glamorous launch
After a year in development, the Baiji stool will be presented from April 21 to April 26, 2026, at Milan Design Week. The stool is already available for preorders at polimair.com with a price of €150.00. Starting from September 2026, the price will go up, and the stool will cost €190. Just like all Polimair’s products, the stools come with a lifetime warranty in case of breakage.

Baiji Stool by Polimair proves that plastic doesn’t have to look cheap. Carefully shaped silhouette, a wide variety of uses, and a customizable colourway can turn a simple stool into both a functional and an artistic multi-use object.
