One-Off SC40 Car Powerfully Portrays Ferrari’s Personalisation Philosophy

Italian luxury sports car manufacturer Ferrari has presented its latest one-off model, the Ferrari SC40. Designed by Ferrari’s Styling Centre, led by Flavio Manzoni, the car carries the name reminiscent of F40, a legendary supercar originally unveiled in July 1987. The resemblance is visible in sharp angular lines juxtaposed with the softer surface transition. The mid-rear V6 engine resembles the 296 GTB two-seater, whose architecture and powertrain are also copied by the new berlinetta.

The distinctive aesthetics of SC40

However, SC40 also boasts plenty of unique features, starting from the script-engraved logo on the side of the wing. The car’s short rear overhang and high fixed rear wing balance its long, low nose in the front. The car is painted in unique SC40 white flowing from the flanks to the fixed rear wing, which is merged with the engine cover extending up, while black separation lines adorn the rear fascia. The colour specially designed for this model highlights the car’s shape while complementing the interior colour tones. The right side of the auto is equipped with the SC40 logo, while aluminium-made charging caps and fuel filler feature a brushed finish.

The letters spelling Ferrari are rendered on the rear engine cover, while the tailor-made wheels mix brushed metal and diamond-cut surfaces with black spokes. The open mesh on the black rear fascia reveals the structural and mechanical components beneath. The V6 engine is visible through Lexan® louvers, which are accompanied by smaller louvers carved into the rear wings near the wheel arches. 3D-printed central exhaust accentuated with titanium and carbon fibre tips completes the section in the back. The taillights echo the designer’s initial inspiration – the 296 GTB.

The sides of the Ferrari F40 contain the intercooler air intake inspired by the classic NACA duct, underscored by a triangle-shaped carbon-fibre plate. Vertical lines outline the front wing’s edges, door cuts, as well as the engine cover, thus defining the rhythm of the design. The front is marked with cleverly integrated headlights placed at the outer corners. Their surrounding black housing spreads downwards to the lower air intake, which spans across the front bumper. The redesigned brake air intakes are defined by two rectangular frames placed below the daytime running lights.

Special Projects by Ferrari

Unsurprisingly, the interior is also inspired by the F40. Footwalls, steering wheel, engine bay, and luggage compartments are made from reimagined carbon-Kevlar, a material also featured in certain parts of dashboard inserts, floor mats, and behind the seats. The upholstery is made from a combination of two materials: Charcoal Alcantara® and a red Jacquard technical fabric. Ferrari utilised the Prancing Horse on the headrest and an SC40 logo woven on the seats to add a touch of luxury.
SC40 is produced within Ferrari’s Special Projects programme, which creates unique cars (called One-Offs) tailored to a client’s desires. Starting October 18, the C40 styling buck will be on view at the Ferrari Museum in Maranello.
