This project marks a milestone in Oslo’s journey toward a zero-emission future. As part of the city’s electrification of public transport, the charging towers ensure that ferry traffic on the Oslo Fjord now runs entirely on electricity, significantly reducing carbon emissions. Inspired by the ocean’s majestic creatures, the sperm whale and the giant squid, the design symbolizes harmony between nature and technology.
Charging Tower 01
Charging Tower 01 at Aker Brygge features aluminum cladding mimicking a whale’s greyish-white, scarred skin. These scar-like patterns double as functional light openings, blending sustainability with artistic innovation. Lightweight, durable, and recyclable materials minimize environmental impact while enhancing the structure’s visual appeal.
The vertical movement of the connection device adapts to fluctuating water levels, ensuring seamless charging for electric ferries. This innovative feature supports a cleaner, more sustainable transportation network, enabling Oslo’s ferries to operate efficiently and without emissions.

Charging Tower 02
Charging Tower 02 at Rådhusbrygge 4 continues the oceanic theme, symbolizing a whale’s tail emerging from the water. Its design enhances the urban waterfront, demonstrating how sustainability can inspire creative and functional architecture.
Developed in collaboration with Ruter, Rejlers, and Seam, these projects integrate eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient features, and advanced engineering to set a new standard for sustainable urban infrastructure. By blending innovative design with environmental responsibility, the charging towers represent a significant leap in Oslo’s commitment to green energy. They celebrate marine life while advancing sustainable transport solutions, showcasing how infrastructure can merge functionality with artistic and ecological values.
