Hidden on the lower level of a timeworn building in the Chinatown neighbourhood of Vancouver, Meo captures the carefree spirit of the 70s and 80s with a heady blend of vintage charm and modern flair. Designed by Ste Marie, an established concept and interior design studio known for its unique approach to developing immersive spaces rich in narrative and authenticity, this cocktail bar and restaurant serves as the vibrant counterpart to Bao Bei and Kissa Tanto. Ste Marie’s work spans a variety of environments, from retail spaces to immersive restaurants, bars, and boutique hotels. Driven by the idea of world-building, the studio evokes both the timelessness of nostalgia and the intimacy of personalized experiences. It offers a welcoming space to indulge, savor the moment, and unwind—whether you’re lingering with friends or making a quick stop before a show.

The dimly lit interior draws inspiration from Greg Girard’s iconic photographs of 1970s Hong Kong nightlife and the elusive allure of bygone “love motels.” Plush pink drapery and vintage floral-patterned carpeting create a cozy backdrop, punctuated by bold red accents from 1970s Guzzini pendant lights. The dark wood-paneled walls and an old-school jukebox evoke a sense of nostalgia, reflecting the rich textures and vibrant colors that define the space. The designers have managed to immerse you in a 70s movie set where both cat lovers and Harry Styles followers would feel at ease.

The bar area extends the room’s eclectic theme, featuring an array of lighting and curios sourced from thrift stores across Taiwan, blended seamlessly with contemporary elements.

Artwork throughout Meo includes an endearing Persian cat painting discovered at a garage sale and a vinyl-printed mural of a photograph from a North Korean hotel, capturing a fleeting utopian moment. These unique pieces, along with the plush pink interiors reminiscent of vintage motel bedspreads, immerse guests in a time capsule of nostalgic elegance.

Meo invites with warmth and charm, offering a whimsical retreat where every night feels full of endless possibilities.
