Managing food allergies is a constant challenge, especially when dining outside the home. For millions worldwide, a single meal can result in a hospital visit, making eating out a source of stress rather than enjoyment. To tackle this issue, Daniela Garcia Garcia introduced Fless, a compact device and app ecosystem designed to test food for allergens before consumption anywhere you are.
Fless works by applying spectrophotometry to simultaneously identify multiple allergens in food, offering a practical solution for situations where allergen presence is uncertain. All the design choices were shaped by user feedback and inspired by everyday interactions, such as inserting a chip card, to create a sense of familiarity. Its pill-shaped form is small enough to carry discreetly, fitting comfortably in a pocket or purse.
The device comes with an app that makes using it even easier. In the app, users can log meals, locate allergy-aware restaurants, and share insights with others who manage their allergies through Fless. Furthermore, an SOS feature allows users to quickly contact emergency services or loved ones if a reaction occurs, adding an extra support layer.
Fless simplifies allergen detection and helps users navigate their food choices and life with greater ease. Whether eating out or traveling, it reduces the risks associated with food allergies, helping individuals approach dining with more control and less stress.
