Light + Building is the international meeting place for manufacturers from the lighting, electrical engineering, home and building automation, and connected security technology sectors. Visited by architects, designers, planners, engineers as well as craftsmen, trade, and industry, the event will take place in Frankfurt, Germany from March 3 to March 8, 2024.

Light + Building focuses on lighting trends in all their facets, the electrification and digitalization of homes and buildings, the connectivity of building services technology, and connected safety and security technology.

The organizers of Light + Building help participants put the spotlight on their products and solutions by bringing together lighting, architecture, and building services technology by networking with experts.

This year’s themes and trends focus on connectivity, sustainability, and work and living. The motto of Light + Building 2024 is ‘Be Electrified’. Based on this motto, the three top themes specify the factors set to be essential for living, working, and mobility in the future.

The sustainability theme revolves around systems and approaches that contribute to making the building sector more economically and environmentally viable. For example, the integration and storage of green energy and efficient energy management. Sustainability is also important for the materials used and the manufacturing process.

The connectivity theme contributes to the efficient use of resources. Thus, electrification and digitalization are the basis for successfully interconnecting the various disciplines of the smart home and the smart building. The collection and storage of data make it possible to control and maintain the functions of a building efficiently during use, resulting in a higher level of comfort and, in particular, greater safety and security.

Lastly, the work and living theme focuses on the changing mobility demands and where we live and work as well as production and sales areas and the urban context. Whether working remotely from home or meeting places for social interaction in an industrial building, tomorrow’s smart home and the smart buildings are planned to make both possible.

During Light + Building there will be multiple events that will focus on architecture, technology, light, and design.

The 12th International Conference on Improving Energy Efficiency in Commercial  Buildings and Smart Communities (IEECB&SC’24) and the European ESCO Conference will bring together all the key players in the field of commercial buildings and neighborhood planning. The congress opens on March 6 and 7 from 9.30 AM to 5.30 PM in the Portalhaus on level Via, room Frequenz. Moreover, free guided tours of the international meeting place for the sector offer orientation and professional exchange. Design Interactive: Sketching the Future, E-House of the Electrical Trades, CREATE UNIQUENESS, and EMBRACE SIMPLICITY are some of the other events that would look at current trends that can influence the design world and improve how we live.

EMBRACE SIMPLICITY, for instance, looks at the ever-growing awareness of beneficial design and quiet arrangements. New design approaches open the view for holistic considerations and the results are sustainable and functional. Sketching the future, on the contrary, is an interactive live sketching event in which VDID members show live in front of an audience how designers develop ideas and bring them to life.

During the five days of Light + Building, there will be several speakers who will discuss trends and innovation. Amongst the speakers are Kevan Shaw, Elisa Conticelli, and Carla Wilkins.

Under the overarching theme of ‘Be Electrified’, Light + Building illuminates not just physical spaces, but also the interconnectedness of our digital and physical worlds. Light + Buildings serves as a rendezvous for ideas, collaboration, and dialogue among different stakeholders.
