The award-winning London-based Sketch has been named the world’s most Instagrammable restaurant. Consisting of different rooms with different vibes, this restaurant is a favorite among many celebrities for its extravagant design and flavorful cuisine. Out of the four rooms at the Sketch—The Parlour, The Glade, The Gallery and The Lecture Room & Library—today we will focus on The Gallery.
The Gallery at Sketch was renovated by interior designer India Mahdavi in 2014. In just three months she was able to create a fun and eclectic place using just one color throughout the interior—pink. The monochromatic design goes well with 250 drawings by David Shrigley on the walls, while the tiles on the floor with green shades add a pop of color to the ambiance of the dining room.
“MY FIRST DESIRE WAS TO PAINT IT ALL PINK AND TO STAGE THE CUSTOMER AS IF HE WERE PART OF A FILM. THE PINK CONTRASTED WITH THE RADICALITY OF THE ROOM. IN THIS MASCULINE ATMOSPHERE, I HAD TO ASSERT MYSELF IN FRONT OF THIS CUBIC ROOM AND INTRODUCE MY VISION: THAT OF COLOUR AND GENTLENESS.”

Benched seating along the walls and Charlotte armchairs throughout the restaurant are the focal points of the interior. Designed by Mahdavi in an attempt to make the space more eccentric and add notes of femininity, the furniture certainly brings the elements of avant-garde style to the restaurant.
An extravagant Hollywood pink color in combination with a ladyfinger biscuit back furniture adds grace and form to the room full of art. As this restaurant is an installation of an artist, in addition to being a Michelin-guide-approved project, the design of this space had to account for all these sides—providing comfortable seating for guests to enjoy their meals, while also creating an atmosphere for them to relax and spend quality time with friends and family.
