Celebrate Lunar New Year with Edison Chen’s Cultural Vision in the CLOT LNY Superstar Sneaker

adidas Originals and Edison Chen have now reached the next chapter of their partnership, the CLOT LNY Superstar sneaker, which was inspired by the fluidity and adaptability of a snake gliding through its habitat. The collection’s philosophy has a clear objective: to encourage us to embrace our personal journey and carve out our own path with confidence and individuality.

Edison Chen is a leading cultural force internationally thanks to his all-encompassing approach towards fashion, art, music and more. Since breaking out in 2000, he has starred in some of Hong Kong’s most influential films and has built a successful career in the music industry. Never one to rest on his laurels when it comes to creative expression, Edison founded CLOT in 2003 as a Hong Kong-based streetwear label with the aim of bridging the East and the West through thoughtfully designed apparel and goods. As CLOT’s Creative Director, Edison has crafted a uniquely recognizable aesthetic that seamlessly marries Chinese traditional motifs with contemporary streetwear, in the process partnering with esteemed international brands to create sold-out collaborative designs.  

The campaign was created with a fusion of tradition and bold modernity, especially tapping into the designer’s ancestry by celebrating the Lunar New Year with vibrant red and gold accents. Each piece is perfect for navigating the world’s cities, as it symbolizes self-expression and the beauty of movement.

This drop is anchored by the CLOT LNY Superstar, which features a jacquard print with a snakeskin pattern, honoring the current Year of the Snake in the Chinese calendar. Some pieces, like the Combat Pant and Track Top, repeat prints, snake arm sleeve detailing, and a regular premium fit. Snake print and gold accents complement the jacquard branding, and the sole used in these pieces is the same as the 2024 Superstar, completing the look. Furthermore, as a meaningful touch, the design includes a coin detail that refers to Shanghai Fashion Week, when Edison joined the adidas family and symbolizes prosperity and wealth in Chinese culture.

To celebrate the launch, adidas Originals and Edison Chen hosted a cultural experience in the vibrant streets of Mexico City, showcasing how Lunar New Year is a moment that goes beyond boundaries and is meant to be celebrated by people from all walks of life. Special guests were invited to explore the city’s rich heritage through a dynamic blend of art, history, and cuisine, highlighting the fusion of Chinese traditions with Mexico’s unique cultural tapestry. The event, including an immersive multi-space venue hosting activities guided by local artists tied to art, fashion, and music, an intimate dinner set in the iconic Chapultepec Forest, and a lively cocktail party to close the night, showcasing the spirit of collaboration, celebrating creativity, diversity, and the shared stories that connect these two dynamic cultures.
