Hi, Barbie! Human Mobile Devices (HMD) has recently teamed up with Mattel to launch the phone everyone wants and needs: the HMD Barbie Phone. This new phone promises a simpler approach to staying connected, free from the distractions of social media, as it is actually a flip phone—who remembers these?
The phone’s design is all Barbie retro, a style that can be found within the technology and on the outside. A standout feature of the phone is its Barbie-pink keypad, with hidden details like palm trees, flamingos, and hearts that light up in the dark. When powered on, users are greeted with a cheerful “Hi, Barbie!” and whenever they miss a call, Ken will always be there to let you know who misses you.
Customisation is key with the HMD Barbie Phone: the device introduces interchangeable covers inspired by the 1992 Totally Hair Barbie doll and a vintage shooting heart pattern. Users can accessorise with a beaded phone strap featuring charms like a roller skate, ice cream, and Barbie sunglasses, and go crazy with a set of stickers and gem decorations.
In keeping with its focus on well-being, the phone includes digital wellness tools, such as calming alarms, self-care reminders, and digital balance tips. Even the user interface reflects this theme, with relaxing sounds like “Coastal” and “Surf Chimes” and Barbie-inspired wallpapers and app icons. A hidden Easter egg feature reveals special Barbie dates when you press *#227243# on the keypad.
The device also supports a 0.3MP camera that captures Y2K-style images, a trend that has gained popularity among Gen Z—there’s even a Barbie-themed camera frame to enhance the nostalgic feel of the photos. The phone’s battery allows up to nine hours of talk time, making it easy to stay connected while on the go. The Barbie Phone comes with a full accessory package, so that everyone can truly make each phone their own: two extra back covers, a pink USB-C charging cable, stickers and gem stickers, a beaded lanyard with attachable charms, and a cleaning cloth.
