We have covered many apartments in São Paulo, Brazil, that have been designed with perfect lighting in mind, and today we are back with more—no one can resist a tropical artsy vibe paired with diffused, ethereal lighting. Apartamento HG was designed in an open layout made better with illumination that focuses on highlighting the architectural features and decor finishes, especially the resident’s art collection.
In the main living area, OMstudio Lighting partially concealed lighting fixtures within the concrete ceiling, washing the walls in a discreet glow that contrasts with their harder material. A track lighting system, fitted with adjustable spotlights, targets the art pieces mounted on the walls, drawing attention to the resident’s favourite space and giving the main rooms of the house a lot of character.
In the office area, marble shelves are softly illuminated from within to highlight the various books and objects owned by the residents. Direct overhead lighting was installed over the desk itself to complement the lighting and ensure this working space doesn’t lack light.
Next to the office, the family room received a different lighting strategy. Here, much like in the entrance, indirect lighting was set within ceiling coves, helping craft a calming atmosphere for the family to enjoy spending time together. Here, lighting is not focused on highlighting specific objects or artworks but is instead used to support the room’s function as a comfortable family area.
In the private gallery space, where no natural light is available, a large backlit ceiling provides even lighting throughout the room. This allows the artworks displayed along the walls to be admired without any harsh shadows or glares. This type of design shows that space with no natural light can still feel comfortable and inviting with the right lighting fixtures.
Sustainability was always important for the team and residents, so the whole lighting scheme was designed to prioritize energy efficiency. To ensure this, low-energy fixtures and a system of programmable lighting scenes were added all throughout the apartment, allowing lighting levels to be adjusted automatically based on the needs of the space at any given time. Furthermore, all lighting fixtures were produced by manufacturers committed to sustainable practices, ensuring that the whole process of creating the lighting design of Apartamento HG was done thoughtfully through and through.
