Announced on March 16, 2026, Apple’s AirPods Max 2 promises significant performance improvements. The new over-ear design is powered by the H2 chip, also used in devices like AirPods Pro 3. The latest model boasts enhanced sound quality, more effective Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), and intelligent capabilities such as Live Translation and Adaptive Audio.

New features and improvements
Combined with a new computational audio algorithm, the headphones deliver up to 1.5× more effective noise cancellation compared to previous models. This improved ANC allows users to immerse themselves more deeply in music, work, or calls. At the same time, the upgraded Transparency mode enables a more natural awareness of the surrounding environment. AirPods Max 2 introduces several new features, including Adaptive Audio, Voice Isolation, Live Translation, and Conversation Awareness.

Designed for content creators
For content creators, studio-quality audio recording provides clearer sound and more natural vocal texture, opening new possibilities for podcasters, musicians, and others. Apple also introduces a high dynamic range amplifier for cleaner audio and a richer sound signature. Spatial Audio has been improved with better instrument separation, more consistent bass, and more natural mids and highs.
When connected via a USB-C cable, AirPods Max 2 supports high-quality 24-bit/48 kHz lossless audio. This, combined with ultra-low latency, allows music creators to use the headphones throughout the entire production process in apps like Logic Pro. The addition of USB-C makes AirPods Max 2 the only headphones capable of both creating and mixing in Personalised Spatial Audio with head tracking. This also enhances gaming experiences across iOS, macOS, and iPadOS.
AirPods Max 2 and the sustainability goals
AirPods Max 2 joins the Apple 2030 plan to become carbon neutral by reducing emissions from materials, electricity, and transportation. AirPods are made from 100% recyclable polyester, gold plating, and earth elements. The packaging is completely recyclable as well.
The AirPods Max 2 are available for preorder starting from March 25 on the Apple website. Shipping will start in April 2026 and the price is $549.
