MPavilion 10 is the latest iteration of Australia’s annual architectural commission when an architect is chosen to design a structure that can host a summer festival of free public events. Created by Tadao Ando Architect & Associates and commissioned by the Naomi Milgrom Foundation, this year’s project is a communal meeting space designed in precise geometric forms and minimalist elements.
The design features a circular aluminum-clad canopy balanced on a single central concrete column, surrounded by concrete walls of varying lengths that partially enclose the area. Inside, the space is symmetrically divided: one half is paved, while the other features a reflecting pool that mirrors the canopy above, the surrounding sky, the cityscape, and the natural environment.

Inspired by Japanese walled gardens, MPavilion 10 was designed as a serene space that interacts with light, wind, and reflections, creating a connection between guests and their surroundings without overwhelming them. The pavilion was designed as a space for gathering, reflection, and dialogue, aligning with its role as the focal point of the summer festival.
Constructed by Kane Constructions, MPavilion 10 was awarded the “Cultural” prize in the “Architectural Design” category at the BLT Built Design Awards.
