The award-winning Camping House, by Atelier Lune, fuses two proven ideas to create a home that travels by car and deploys in hours: the tent (fast, foldable and portable) and the module (precise, attachable and upgradable). Instead of treating mobility as an afterthought, Na Shen and her team have designed the entire building as a kit of “ports” that click together and unfold with a choreographed motion.
The three ports
Three attachable ports make up the system: a “Residential Port” with customisable living and sleeping layouts, a “Utility Port” with a kitchen and a restroom, and an “Extended Port” that clips on to form a workspace, store gear or give guests some extra space.
Making it work is easier than it sounds: arrive by car, stabilise, release the hinges and the shell fans open on their own. It is basically furniture that flips from day to night in seconds. Designed for year-round forests, deserts or coasts, Camping House leaves a light footprint, runs off-grid and folds back up when you go. Due to this simple form, users can enjoy the freedom of remote work, seasonal migration, disaster relief and low-impact eco-tourism.
A sustainability base
People increasingly work remotely, travel seasonally and seek nature, so Camping House gives users the freedom they look for with minimum impact on the landscape: no permanent foundations, minimised site grading and reversible anchoring. To support this vision of climate-smart living, the product comes with roof-integrated PV, battery storage, rainwater capture and cross-ventilation aided by a solar chimney flap.
Materials were chosen for durability and circularity: a recyclable aluminium frame, bio-based insulation, replaceable claddings and repairable fabric membranes. When a community faces wildfires, floods or housing shortages, fleets of Camping Houses can serve as rapid shelters that feel dignified, as they offer private rooms, real kitchens and real restrooms, and then relocate as recovery progresses.
Comfort in every season
In summer, deep eaves and the membrane awning create shade and outdoor rooms; in winter, high-R panels, thermal-break frames and airtight gaskets retain heat. Glass allows views to be thoroughly enjoyed while also minimising heat losses or gains, while night blinds and insulated floor panels boost performance after dark.
Above all, folding and unfolding are intuitive and fast: stabilise, unlock, swing, click. The house performs like equipment and lives like a home, giving future nomads the freedom to go anywhere responsibly and to leave no trace but good stories.
