Zaha Hadid Architects has introduced a new piece of outdoor furniture, the Ripple sofa, for the Italian company Serralunga. Inspired by water
The concept of fluidity inspires the design of the Ripple sofa. Its shape copies the undulating movement of water. The designers imagined a wave coming to the shore, and this image is captured in the sofa’s long, curved lines. This feeling of movement gives the sofa a lively and energetic quality. The design also includes a matching side table that continues the wavy form, allowing for different seating arrangements. The pieces work together to create a complete outdoor lounge setup.
Built for the outdoors
Crafted with real-world use in mind, the Ripple sofa is made from a single piece of recyclable polyethylene. This material was chosen for its strength and ability to withstand different weather conditions, making it a durable choice for outdoor spaces. Comfort was also a key consideration in its creation. A special feature is the lighting built into the base of the sofa. This integrated light source casts a soft glow in the evening, illuminating the furniture and creating a cozy atmosphere for late-night gatherings.
