The Basalto foosball table, designed by Juskani Alonso and Brizeth García, offers a new take on a well-known game by focusing on the expressive potential of materials and form. Developed as a conceptual piece by Mexico City–based Estudio Juskani Alonso, the table brings together white oak, tzalam wood, brass, and metal, having even won the Sport Equipment Design – Urban Sports category at the FIT Sport Design Awards.

About the design

The design took its inspiration from Mexico City’s main stadium, translating its monumental presence into a common domestic object. This, however, doesn’t mean that the place’s identity was lost in translation, as the table fits into the studio’s “Hiperlocal” approach, which aims to embed regional references within objects that can still resonate outside their native cultural setting.

Each detail of the table was carefully considered, not only for its performance but also for how it contributes to the overall presence of the piece. The wooden body, for example, provides structure and warmth; the brass details add contrast and precision; and the exposed metal plate introduces a direct and unpolished surface. In this way, material honesty becomes central to the design, especially as every part remains completely visible.
