“Night of City” is a huge Chinese entertainment venue designed by JFR Studio that recently won the prestigious SIT Furniture Design Awards for its unique design. The team, comprised of Jeffrey Zee, Kevin Liu, Rex Wang, Sara Shi, and Tina Gao, integrated advanced construction techniques and technology to create a highly immersive and futuristic environment across 46 private VIP rooms.
Each room has various entertainment options, including live DJ setups, karaoke, gaming, dining, video displays, and spaces for performance arts catering to diverse hobbies and interests. The rooms are private, so guests can enjoy their time surrounded by what interests them the most without forfeiting their privacy.
The design of this venue makes it recognizable, even if one only takes a short look at a picture or angle, as themes of astral travel and alternate realities inspired it. To achieve this surreal experience, the team added dramatic architectural elements, lighting, and dynamic visual effects, creating varying moods throughout the rooms. Among these features, the most intense are ceiling designs with lighting grids that simulate organic movement, wall panels that reflect light to mimic shifting landscapes, and circular ceiling displays that emulate cosmic visuals.
Over six months of planning and coordination with multiple consultants were required to ensure the smoothness of the design elements. The construction phase spanned a year and involved consistent on-site and remote collaboration. The project was completed in June 2022 and has since maintained a strong commercial performance, reporting monthly sales exceeding $2 million.
