Dancing Ribbon is an Award-Winning Design that Combines Art, Social Interaction, and Innovation

Dancing Ribbon is a project located in the TOP plan of Changgongyan, Tianfu New District, Chengdu, China. Its design carries not only symbolic meaning but also gives fast-moving people the opportunity to slow down and rest. As a public space in the core area of the TOD, it provides access to the surrounding 8 functional spaces.

Lead designer, Kris Lin, wanted to create a public space where people would have the interest to stay. One of the main reasons to develop this project was namely to reduce apathy between individuals and encourage their interaction.

Kris Lin International Design’s team was inspired to create the dancing ribbon as a link between the different types of relationships symbolizing the city’s rhythm and vitality. Kris Lin International Design is an international architectural design company from Taipei, currently based in Shanghai. The design studio adheres to the design concept of “innovation from observation” and has a strong pursuit of the design works display effect.

Kris Lin International Design has been focusing on design, ingenuity, and originality while abandoning the traditional interest-oriented business model. It emphasizes pragmatism and firmly believes that good design works bring good word of mouth.

The “ribbon” starts from the ground plane and surrounds the interior of the building, creating a sense of volume and line inside. It guides visitors to visit the internal space, and at the same time ingeniously resolves the traditional, static, box-like space display form.

The idea behind this project is to not only be pretty and interesting but also to serve the community as a public hall in which people could have a coffee, read, or just chit-chat with each other.

Additionally, the Dancing Ribbon is the winner of of the SIT Furniture Design Award in the Public Space Design category.

To conclude, Dancing Ribbon is a design that encourages social interaction and relaxation in Chengdu’s hectic modern life. This project not only contributes to the cityscape but also contributes to the community fostering connections between different space visitors.
