Zurich’s Bahnhof Enge to Host Captivating Light Installation “Soul”

This September, Bahnhof Enge in Zurich will become a canvas for a light installation titled “Soul,” created by renowned Ukrainian artist Mykola Kabluka. The installation will transform the historic ticket office at Enge station into an enchanting, immersive experience.

Soul,” Kyiv Design Week’s contribution to Zurich Design Weeks, showcases Kabluka’s signature blend of light art and digital media. The installation features a dynamic, wave-like projection enveloping viewers in a dance of soft colors and shifting shapes. This piece will captivate passers-by and serve as a glimmer of hope amidst ongoing restoration efforts in Kyiv.

The light installation is part of a unique cultural exchange between the two design festivals. Following Kyiv Design Week’s participation in Zurich Design Weeks last year, each event is now contributing a project to the other. Kabluka’s “Soul” will be displayed at both Bahnhof Enge in Zurich and at Kyiv’s historic Church of St Nicholas.

In Zurich, the light installation will highlight the architectural significance of Enge station, celebrating its rich history through a contemporary lens. The installation’s constantly evolving visuals reflect Kabluka’s delicate artistry, merging physical and digital elements into a single, coherent masterpiece. An accompanying audio component enhances the experience, symbolizing high aspirations and dreams, transforming these intangible thoughts into a tangible work of art.

In Kyiv, “Soul” draws attention to the Church of St Nicholas, an iconic Neo-Gothic structure designed by Vladyslav Horodetskyi. Despite undergoing significant repairs after a devastating fire in 2021, the church remains in need of further restoration. Kabluka’s installation spotlights the church’s historical and cultural importance, underscoring the ongoing need for preservation.
